Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V with 128GB SSD Announced

Toshiba yesterday announced the addition of a 128GB solid state drive (SSD) into the Portege R500 12.1-inch ultraportable laptop.

“Toshiba’s 2.4 pound Portege R500-S5007V is the world’s lightest laptop with a 128GB SSD and DVD SuperMulti drive and one of the world’s thinnest with a SSD and DVD SuperMulti drive,” the press release says.

Along with the 128GB Serial ATA SSD and DVD burner, the Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V features Intel’s Core 2 Duo U7700 ultra-low voltage processor at 1.33GHz, 2GB of RAM, the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, a wireless module supporting 802.11n standard, Gigabit Ethernet port, and Bluetooth. Laptop’s 12.1″ display has a resolution of 1280-by-800 pixels and LED backlight.

According to Toshiba, the R500-S5007V has a battery life of “more than eight hours”.

The notebook runs Windows Vista operating system and has a MSRP of $2,999.

Toshiba Portege A600 - New Mainstream Ultraportable

Toshiba announced yesterday the Portege A600 mainstream ultraportable laptop PC, featuring a 12.1-inch display and Intel Centrino 2 technology.

The Toshiba Portege A600 weighs 3.2 pounds. It’s 1.18-inches thin at its thinnest edge, according to the PC maker.

The company currently offers only one A600 model – the A600-S2201, priced at $1,399. It comes with the Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 processor at 1.2GHz, GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, 3GB of DDR2 memory, a 160GB hard drive, and built-in DVD burner. The notebook’s widescreen display has a resolution of 1280-by-800 pixels and LED backlight.

Along with embedded web camera and fingerprint reader, the Portege A600-S2201 provides 802.11a/g/n wireless, Bluetooth, and Gigabit Ethernet LAN connections, two USB ports plus an additional USB/eSATA combo port with “Sleep and Charge” functionality, an ExpressCard slot, SD Card reader, and VGA output.

The A600-S2201 comes with Windows Vista Business OS.

Toshiba Portege R600 Ultraportable Now Available in the US

Toshiba’s new 12.1-inch ultraportable laptop - the Portege R600 - is now available in the United States.

The Toshiba Portege R600 measures 0.77 inches at its thinnest edge and starts at 2.4 pounds. It is based on Intel Centrino 2 processor technology. Currently, there are two R600 configurations available - the R600-S4201 and R600-S4202. Both systems come with the Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 CPU at 1.4GHz, GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, 3GB of DDR2 memory, a built-in DVD burner, and 1280×800 widescreen LED-sidelight display that is outdoor viewable.

However, the Portege R600-S4201 includes a 160GB traditional hard drive, while the R600-S4202 has a 128GB solid state drive.

The offered notebooks feature an integrated web camera, the Intel Wi-Fi Link 5100AGN (802.11a/g/n) wireless module, Gigabit Ethernet LAN port, and Bluetooth, as well as two USB ports, an USB/eSATA combo port with “Sleep and Charge” functionality, an ExpressCard slot, and Secure Digital slot.

For enhanced security, there are fingerprint reader and the Trusted Platform Module 1.2.

According to product specifications, the ultraportables provide up to 7.53 hours of battery life.

The R600 runs Windows Vista Business OS.

Lenovo IdeaPad S12 with NVIDIA Ion Now Available

The Lenovo IdeaPad S12 netbook models with the NVIDIA Ion multimedia-oriented platform are now available for purchase.

The Ion-based IdeaPad S12 features a 12.1-inch 1280×800 display, a 256MB dedicated graphics card supporting full HD video playback, the Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz CPU and Windows 7 OS. The first two released models - the 29595FU and 295954U - include 2GB and 3GB of DDR2 RAM and 250GB and 320GB hard drives, respectively. Both netbooks have a 6-cell battery, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a black chassis.

Acer Introduces Aspire AS8940G-6865 Quad Core 18.4″ Laptop

Acer has introduced the Acer Aspire AS8940G-6865 desktop replacement laptop, featuring an 18.4-inch display, an Intel Core i7 quad-core processor and Windows 7 Home Premium OS.

Along with the i7-720QM 1.6GHz quad-core CPU and the full HD 1920×1080 LED-backlight screen, the entertainment oriented AS8940G-6865 incorporates the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250M dedicated GPU, a Blu-ray combo drive, a 500GB HDD and 4GB of DDR3 memory.

The notebook also sports five built-in speakers and Dolby Home Theater sound technology, a web camera, an HDMI output, a touch-capacitive media control interface, 802.11n Wi-Fi, five USB ports, and an eSATA port.

The Acer Aspire AS8940G-6865 will be available this holiday season at leading retailers in the U.S. for around $1,350.

Walmart to Offer HP Pavilion G60-519WM for $298 on Nov. 7

Walmart will be offering the HP Pavilion G60-519WM 15.6-inch laptop for $298 on November 7, according to the retailer’s ads.

The Pavilion G60-519WM includes the Intel Celeron 900 processor at 2.2GHz, the GMA 4500M integrated graphics, 3GB of DDR2 memory, a 250GB hard drive, a DVD burner, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, a 56k modem, two USB ports, a VGA output, and Windows 7 Home Premium OS.

The product page at Walmart.com says the notebook will be available in Wallmart’s brick-and-mortar stores and that will not be available on the retailer’s website.

HP Compaq Presario CQ61Z Series Overview

The HP Compaq Presario CQ61Z is a recently released 15.6-inch series laptop, advertised as a classic style notebook for easy everyday computing.

The Compaq Presario CQ61Z comes with the AMD Sempron single core M100 or AMD dual core CPUs (M300, M320, M500 or M520), the ATI Radeon HD 4200 integrated graphics, up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, up to 500GB of hard drive space, and a DVD burner or optional Blu-ray combo drive.

Its 15.6″ display has a resolution of 1366-by-768 pixels and optional LED backlight.

HP’s new notebook also includes an optionally built-in web camera, stereo speakers, a VGA output and optional HDMI, wireless LAN and Ethernet LAN connections, optional Bluetooth, three USB ports, and a 5-in-1 media card reader.

The CQ61z weighs 5.9 pounds with its standard 6-cell battery and runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS.

The laptop starts at $399 at HP.com.
